After 19 years of dedicated leadership, Art Start announces that Johanna De Los Santos will be transitioning from her role as Co-Executive Director, with her final day of service on June 30, 2026.

Over the course of her leadership, Johanna guided Art Start from a previously shuttered program into a thriving, multi-city, multi-program organization serving thousands of young people each year. Under her leadership, Art Start has expanded its reach, built a dedicated and values-driven staff, and developed innovative programs that continue to create space for youth to lead, create, and share their stories through the arts.

Reflecting on her transition, Johanna shared: “Leading Art Start for nearly two decades has been a defining part of my life’s work. I am incredibly proud of what we have built together and confident in the mission, strength and resilience of this organization.”

“Johanna’s impact on Art Start and the broader community is profound,” said the Board of Directors. “Her leadership, creativity, and unwavering dedication have shaped this organization in lasting ways. We are deeply grateful for her years of service and the strong foundation she leaves behind.”

Art Start’s Board of Directors is committed to ensuring a thoughtful and steady leadership transition and has initiated a process to guide the organization forward..

As part of this transition, Reshard Riggins will step into the role as Executive Director, providing clear leadership and continuity moving forward.

In the months ahead, Johanna will continue to support the organization as an advisor. She will be closely partnered with Art Start staff and leadership to ensure continuity and smooth transition for the community.

The organization remains financially strong, programmatically robust, and supported by a dedicated staff and Board of Directors.
